Volunteering enables you to give something back to the community, build a network of contacts with similar aspirations, manage new challenges, meet up with people with similar aspirations, gain experiences and learn new skills.

DREAMS

Youth Mentoring
Spend your weekly Thursday evenings with our youths to help them with their school work and guide them through their challenges. You will be making a big difference to our youths. Your time will support them in maximizing their potential, overcoming the many challenges in their teenage years and make a difference in their lives !

Criteria for volunteering:

  • 21 years old and above
  • A good role model to mentor youths
  • Able to commit 2 hours from 7:00pm to 9:00pm every Thursday for a minimum of 6 months
  • Able to guide our youths in their academic work
Viriya Children Medical Programme

Family Befrienders
Join our members as they go on their monthly outings. The outings seek to enhance the social support network for the families with children who have long term medical conditions and strengthen family resilience. Be there to provide practical support to make the activities a success and be a much-needed friend to our families.

Criteria for volunteering:

  • Aged 18 years and above
  • Able to commit on the third Saturday of every month from 8:30am to 1:30pm.
Viriya Elderly Medical Programme

Family Befrienders
Visit our senior members who have chronic medical conditions but low social support. With mobility issues, it is hard for them to move around. Why not spend your free time visiting them and bring warmth and friendship right to their door step?

Criteria for volunteering:

  • Aged 21 years and above
  • Able to commit at least 4 hours every month for a minimum period of 3 months
  • Ability to speak Malay, or dialects would be helpful
Viriya Family Service Centre

Viriya Corner Befrienders
Support the centre through helping in maintaining the centre, organising activities and befriending the children and seniors in joint activities to promote inter-generation bonding and active aging.

Criteria for volunteering:

  • Passion in engaging children and senior citizens
  • Able to converse in English, Mandarin and Hokkien or Cantonese
  • Able to commit at least once a month on either Thursday (1pm to 8pm) or Friday (1pm to 5pm)
Viriya Mental Wellness Hub

Learn My Dialect
You can help bridge the communication gap between dialect-speaking seniors and the younger generations. If you can speak both English or Mandarin and another Chinese dialect such as Hokkien or Cantonese, join us in conducting conversational dialect classes to the young ones and professionals serving the seniors in our society. Your support will promote inter-generation interaction and help our seniors be understood and supported well.

Criteria for Volunteering:

  • 55 years old and above
  • Able to read and speak basic English
  • Able to speak Hokkien and/or Cantonese

Community Outreach
Join us in our weekly engagement with the community members at playgrounds and community hangout spaces, and help to maintain regular contact with the community members through door-knocking, calling and texting.

Programmes

  • Creative story telling to children at Kids Club @ 52
  • Teach your favourite culinary recipe, yoga or other life skills
  • Befriend an elderly through our weekly Kopi Talk, Rummikub, and Bingo sessions
  • Join our community wall art painting (May – June 2021)
  • Educate seniors in operating smartphones and the use of functional applications

 

Whispering Hearts Family Service Centre

Resource Coordinators
Sort and organised donated items for re-distribution to our beneficiaries as part of our Share Share programme or Food Ration programme.

Criteria for volunteering:

  • Able to commit at least 4 hours a month

Family Befrienders
Spend 1 evening per week with our beneficiaries to provide social and emotional support. Welcome them at our centre or visit them at their homes. Help us to build a caring community where one is never alone.

Criteria for volunteering:

  • Aged 21 years and above
  • Able to commit at least 2 Thursday evenings per month from 6pm to 9pm.
