The Viriya-KK Children's Hospital HomeCare Programme leverages on the strengths of both parties by partnering medical expertise and care from the hospital, with the community, financial and emotional support from Viriya. The objective of this programme is to provide these chronically ill children a speedy recovery at their home in a warm and familiar environment. With this, we can bring smiles to the faces of these children and their families by improving their quality of live.
Over the years, the number of technologically dependent chronically ill children discharged from the hospital has slowly increased. Pediatric home healthcare has increased as high technology at home becomes increasingly more feasible and more patients and their parents find the home environment more desirable.
However, not every family can afford to purchase the required home equipment and consumables. Viriya can help to ease these families’ financial burden.
In addition, a good quality homecare programme will include emotional support for these children and their families. Viriya provides this under its Befriender Programme.
Said Venerable Sek Meow Ee, President of Viriya Community Services, "A quality homecare programme should include strong emotional support for the children and their families. In addition to offering financial assistance to children under the programme, Viriya’s trained volunteers will provide emotional support to these children and their families. The volunteers will also provide relief for the caregivers by giving them breaks from these emotionally straining situations."
