Being a forward-looking Family Service Centre, WHFSC made a paradigm shift. We did not just wait for residents to come to us, we went out to them in full force in our event ‘Fiesta@Nanyang’. Living up to our motto: Caring for you with Compassion and Concern, we were being proactive!
In order to entice families in the Jurong West (Nanyang zone), there were lucky dips and balloon sculpting for the kids. Most of the families were forthcoming in asking many questions about our programs and services. We managed to talk to over 100 families and got them to register their particulars and their interests with us. In a nutshell, we want to make our services available for families of Pioneer, Nanyang, Hong Kah and Jurong West areas. It was an exciting and memorable time for our team and I’m sure for the families too as they kept bringing their children to get their sculpted balloons! We also used this opportunity to help our clients in their social enterprise initiative- by selling their home-made cookies which were well received by the people who visited our booth. This is a good beginning for us and we are looking forward to more outreach initiatives. According to a Chinese proverb, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”
