Synchronized Couplehood Retreat @ Gardenasia June 2008
This year, we brought new life to Synchronized Couplehood. Together with Corrina and Ganesan from Atman Counselling and Training Consultancy, Steven and I brought 15 couples back to nature for one full day at Gardenasia- to allow couples to spend time with their partner in quiet rustic ambience, away from the buzzing movements of citylife.
Couples were given the opportunity to experience childhood once again by playing ice-breaker games (e.g. the balloon game). One can never fail to see the laughter and joy on the countenances of the couples as they partake in the activities of their childhood together. It is amazing to see how these seemingly simple games were so powerful in creating fun moments for each individual couple.
The retreat was well-represented by couples of different stages, from as young as 3 months old couples to 31 years. This diversity allowed sharing of experiences from couples from different developmental stages of their marriage life. Through sharing and experiential activities, couples took home with them the knowledge/skills on marriage life, communication, love languages and even conflict resolution skills.
One of the program highlights was “Touch for Intimacy”, couples had hands-on experience to physically pamper their partner by taking turns to massage for each another. Silent walk was also declared at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. It was the prescribed time for couples to quieten down and understand the power of being physically present for your spouse- to share the moment where ‘more than words can say’. Close to the end the program, every couple was treated with a romantic candle-light dinner under the stars.
It is heartening to know that many couples came to the retreat wanting to know about their partners and at the end of the program; majority of them got exactly what they asked for.
