“Learn My Dialect” Programme Volunteers Recruitment Talk

This is a recruitment talk for volunteers who want to find out more about “Learn My Dialect” Programme. Volunteers must be senior citizens age 50 and above and bilingual in English and dialects (Cantonese and / or Hokkien).

“Physical Wellness Program” for Elderly

Monday 3pm to 4pm
My Centre@Moulmein Function Room
The program aims to get elderly to get together and exercise together under the guidance of trained personnel. Light refreshments are provided after each session.

Basic Computer Lessons for Adults

Date: Starting on 6th August 09 (Every Thursday)
Time: 10am - 11am and 11.30am – 12.30am
Venue: Children Club @ My Centre
Fee: S$30 (members), S$40 (non-members)
*Keep up with the technology. Learn to use the computer and be open to the whole new world.

Basic Conversational English for the Adults

Date: Starting on 19th August 09 (Every Wednesday)
Time: 9.30am - 10.30am
Venue: Activity Room, My Centre @ Moulmein
Fee: S$16 (members), S$24 (non-members) / 8 lessons

Yoga Class

Date: Starting on 22nd August 09 (Every Saturday)
Time: 10am - 11am
Venue: Activity Room, My Centre @ Moulmein
Attire: Comfortable clothing but not too loose
Fee: S$50 (members), S$60 (non-members) / 10 lessons
*Yoga is a gentle exercise that helps to tone up your body and improve flexibility, breathing and posture. You will feel more calm and less stress.
**Participants have to bring their own yoga mat and towel. However, we can help participants to purchase the yoga mat.

Viriya Intergenerational Carnival “Ties That Bind” - in celebration of National Family Week (June)

In conjunction with MCYS “Family Matters!” and Central Singapore CDC TRUST Central, this yearly outdoor event in June aims to promote intergenerational and multi-racial bonding.

Year 2006, we organized a series of contest to get all family members to take part eg. “Most Beautiful Ah Ma” Contest, “Viriya Cutest Baby” Contest, “Viriya Children Talent-time” Contest and “Healthy Vegetarian Dish Contest”. We attracted close to 2,000 participants for the event. The GOH were Minister for Health, Mr Khaw Boon Wan and Minister of State for Education, RADM (NS) Lui Tuck Yew.

Year 2007, we organized a Bazaar selling delicious food and items made by the residents.

Active Aging Festival (November)

Senior Citizens’ Week aims to promote a positive image of aging and to celebrate aging gracefully together with the residents.

Year 2006, MCM organized the “Senior Citizen KTV” contest and “Senior Citizens’ Party cum Dinner celebration” with Pek Kio Senior Citizens Club. RADM (NS) Lui Tuck Yew, Minister of State and Mp for Tanjong Pagar GRC, was the GOH for the event.

Year 2007, MCM celebrated Active Aging Festival with the residents of Moulmein by organizing a mass brisk walk “Ah Gong Ah Ma! Let’s Walk!” around the Moulmein estate on the 17th Nov 2007.
